The RSPB Loch of Strathbeg nature reserve covers 2300
acres and contains the largest dune loch in Britain. An
internationally important wetland and a Site of Special
Scientific Interest, the reserve is the winter home for
tens of thousands of pink-footed geese and large numbers
of whooper swans and ducks.
Birds
We are continuously surrounded by hundreds of oystercatchers,
lapwings, curlews, starlings, eider ducks. Less frequent
smaller flocks include goldfinches, greenfinches, ringed
plovers, numbering a few dozen, and of course the tens
of thousands of pink footed geese.
