History

There are two castle ruins just outside Peterhead:

Inverugie Castle is in a rather dangerous condition, and being in the village of Inverugie itself, it has been fenced off from the public. It is accessible by escort only with prior arrangement with the owners who live in the adjacent properties.

Ravenscraig Castle is in an equally dangerous condition, perhaps more so given that it is much taller and on high ground making it a rather more imposing, towering ruin. However, as it is on a riverbank away from the well-trodden public path, it hasn't been fenced off so access isn't a problem, but do be careful.
